Detection & Monitoring Vehicles
Mobile inspection, environmental monitoring and field testing vehicles, engineered around your instruments, power and operating mission — not around a catalogue. Light commercial van platforms procurable in China: IVECO Daily and JMC Ford Transit, or the chassis you nominate.
What We Build
Five detection missions we build regularly. The vehicle is the same kind of van upfit in every case — what changes is the instrument package, the power layout and the bench. Tell us which mission is yours and the build follows it.
Environmental Monitoring
Air-quality and emissions sensing, meteorological observation and image transmission, for environment agencies and industrial parks.
Water Quality Testing
On-site physicochemical and contamination testing with sampling equipment and a live data link back to base.
Water quality testing page →Food & Pharmaceutical Inspection
Instrument benches, testing devices and printers for on-site food-safety and product-quality checks.
Oil & Fuel Analysis
Viscosity, flash point, moisture and wear-metal testing of engine, hydraulic, gear and transformer oil, with waste-oil recovery.
Emission (PEMS) Testing
On-road vehicle emission testing carried as a mobile test platform rather than a fixed laboratory.
Two of these missions have their own page: mobile inspection platforms (how testing equipment is integrated into a van) and water quality testing vehicles.

The same five stages as every Fengqi build — applied here to instruments, power and data rather than to bodywork alone.
- Requirement Definition
We start from the instrument list, not the vehicle: what is measured, how much it weighs, what it draws, and whether the crew works parked or on the move.
- Chassis & Compliance
Width, payload and roof height are matched to the mission, and road-legal feasibility for your country — registration, axle load, weight — is checked before design freezes.
- Engineering Design
Rack and bench layout, power budget and redundancy, weight distribution, heat and ventilation, plus the equipment interfaces and cabling routes.
- Fabrication & Conversion
In-house fabrication of the interior structure and equipment-mating parts, then full conversion, fit checks and instrument mounting.
- Testing & Delivery
Functional testing of power, cooling and comms under load, sealing and rain checks, final compliance review, then handover ready to ship.
Every stage is handled in-house, so the drawings, the wiring and the instrument mounting sit with one party. More on our engineering capabilities.
Built to Specification
The same upfit approach also serves road profiling, weigh-in-motion, power-field testing, agricultural and veterinary labs, and BSL-2 / BSL-3 mobile biocontainment. These are delivered on specification rather than from a standard catalog — tell us the mission and we engineer the body and instruments around the chassis you choose.
Chassis Options
Chassis shown are examples with available photos. We can build the same detection upfit on any chassis procurable in the China market — tell us your preferred base and we engineer the body and power layout around it.
| Build type | Typical chassis | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Environmental monitoring | IVECO Daily M1-33S | 4 t GVW, China VI diesel (F1C 3.0T / F1A 2.3L), long-wheelbase medium-roof van. |
| Multi-scene inspection | JMC Ford Transit T8 | 3.55–4.10 t GVW, Ford PUMA 2.0T / 2.3T diesel, optional part-time 4x4. |
| Robotics operations | JMC Ford Transit V362 | 3.3 t GVW, EcoBoost gasoline or PUMA diesel, robot bay + control station. |
| Mobile oil testing | JMC Ford Transit V362 | 3.3 t GVW, 2.0T gasoline, compartment converted to an oil-analysis lab. |
What We Need Before We Quote
A detection vehicle is quoted from the specification, so these six answers decide both the price and the lead time. Send what you have — we work from partial lists too.
- The mission — what is being measured, and whether the crew works parked or while the vehicle is moving
- The instrument list — quantities, dimensions, weight and power draw per device
- Runtime and power — how long the equipment must run without shore power, and in what climate
- People and layout — how many operators, seated or standing, bench or rack
- Chassis preference — a brand available to you, 4x2 or 4x4, diesel, gasoline or electric
- Destination — country, registration rules and the compliance documents you need
Engineering Notes
Two field notes on the decisions that shape a detection build.
Why a Detection Vehicle Is a Van, Not a Truck
Equipment list first, chassis second — and the two things that push a build out of a van.
PowerThe Alternator Is Not Enough
A 12V alternator makes about 1.8 kW; air conditioning alone needs 6–8. Where the rest comes from.
IntegrationWhy Layouts Change During Production
The customer knows the main instrument, not what goes with it — why equipment integration is never finished on paper.
Related Vehicle Ranges
Command vehicles
Communication command and drone ground-control platforms with satcom, expandable bodies and multi-drone ops.
Emergency & rescue
Heavy rescue platforms and deployable shelters with integrated power, lighting and on-site command.

Eight Fengqi series — pick the mission that fits and see what goes inside, how we build it, and how it ships.
Why Choose Our Detection Platforms
Each detection vehicle is a purpose-built upfit on a finished van — the instrument package defines the mission, not the chassis.
One van body serves air/water monitoring, quality inspection, robotics deployment or oil testing by swapping the onboard instrument rack and power layout.
Mains inlet, UPS and an on-board generator with cabinet power the instruments; 5G / private-network comms and image transmission link back to base.
Common Questions on Mobile Detection Builds
What can a detection or monitoring vehicle carry?+
It depends on the mission. Environmental units integrate air/water-quality sensors, exhaust remote-sensing and meteorological gear. Inspection units carry instrument workbenches, testing devices and printers. Robotics units carry charging bays and a control station. Oil labs carry analyzers for viscosity, flash point, moisture and wear metals. The chassis is the same — the instrument rack differs.
Which chassis do you use?+
The builds shown use light commercial vans we have photos for - IVECO Daily (M1-33S) and JMC Ford Transit (T8 and V362), gasoline or diesel, 4x2. These are representative: we upfit on any chassis procurable in the China market, and specify heavier or 4x4 platforms by mission.
How is power supplied for the instruments?+
A side-mounted generator with power cabinet and UPS, plus a mains inlet for shore power. The layout is sized to the instrument load so equipment runs through long field shifts.
Can the data be transmitted live?+
Yes. Image capture and transmission, communications command and 5G / private-network links are part of the typical fit-out, so readings and video return to base in real time.
Compliance and export — how does that work?+
Builds start from Chinese CCC / GB as the baseline and are configured to the buyer’s destination requirements, with documentation support such as COC where applicable. The conversion is integrated in-house, so accountability stays with one party.
What about budget and lead time?+
Both follow the configuration: chassis, instrument package and power layout. We quote per build after the specification is confirmed, so the number follows the truck, not the other way round.
Which monitoring missions do you build most?+
Our core detection programs are environmental monitoring (air, water, emissions), water-quality testing, food and pharmaceutical inspection, oil and fuel analysis, and mobile emission (PEMS) testing. The same van-upfit approach also serves road profiling, weigh-in-motion, power-field testing, agricultural and veterinary labs, and BSL-2 / BSL-3 biocontainment — those are built to specification. Tell us the mission and we engineer the instruments and power layout around the chassis you choose.
